It Starts With Food & The Whole30 - Journey to Health

I am going to stop short of saying I have found the holy grail of healthy eating. I have said that before and life has showed me different. But this just makes SO MUCH sense.

I cannot even remember how I found the Whole30. I think I was just a bunch of googling for low fat high carb lifestyles and came across this plan. I was originally going to start it October 1st, but nobody jumped on the bandwagon with me and I didn't have enough time to properly prepare and research. November we went on a big road trip, and December, well thats the holidays. Sorry but I am going to have treats during the holidays. I will never change this. Ever.

January it was. And why not the 1st. A new year. A fresh start.

The thing I loved MOST about the Whole30 is that the entire plan is available online for FREE. I was tired of investing money in books and special foods. This was just a simple plan with simple food you can find in the grocery store.

Because of this, I originally did not plan on reading It Starts With Food. I did NOT want to spend any more money. But an Instagrammer I follow did the Whole30 in November, and convinced me to read it. And boy, am I glad I did.

I honestly thought I had read it all. I mean, I have been doing so much reading since the summertime, there couldn't possibly be anything new for me to learn. Ah but yes, there was.

One HUGE thing that popped out to me was sort of discrediting the glycemic index. This has basically been my bible on determining what foods are good for me to eat or not. The glycemic index is a one dimensional look at a food. It does not tell you what nutrients are in the food, or if they are healthy. It just tells you how they raise your blood sugar. I do, however, feel that it is still good to know these values about food. But it shouldn't be your only measuring stick when determining which healthy foods to put into your body.

For example, the GI of watermelon is 72, and the GI of peanut M & M's are 33. On a scale of 0 being no blood sugar spike, and 100 to be the same as pure sugar. Which is healthier? The peanut M & M's. But common sense tells us that is not quite right. Obviously watermelon is the better choice. But the GI does tell us that maybe we shouldn't eat the entire melon at one time.

The authors look at food using 4 different criteria to determine if the food is worthy of the Whole30.

These are:

"1.Promote a healthy psychological response. As a rule, we think the foods that are good for your body should also not mess with your mind. And we think the psychological effects of your food choices are perhaps the most important factors to consider during your healthy-eating transformation.

This is why the Whole30 includes rules like, “No Paleo-ifying desserts or junk food” or “No stepping on the scale for 30 days.” The guidelines aren’t just about how these foods (and behaviors) are affecting you physically, but also how they play into our unhealthy relationships with food, eating, and our bodies.

2. Promote a healthy hormonal response. Chronic “overcarbsumption” of food-with-no-brakes leads to reliance on sugar for fuel, an accumulation of body fat, triglyceride buildup in the liver, and an excess of glucose and triglycerides in the bloodstream. But you can stop overconsuming, dial all the way back to insulin and leptin sensitivity, retrain your body to burn fat and, to a significant degree, restore normal cortisol levels, by doing one simple thing: changing the food you put on your plate.

This is why our plan includes nutrient-dense, whole foods (no nutrient-poor-but-technically-Paleo options!) and why we include guidelines like, “Eat three meals a day, trying not to snack,” and “Start your day with a breakfast focused on protein and fat.” The food choices and mealtime habits you’ll develop on your Whole30 will start to restore a healthy hormonal balance quickly.

3. Support a healthy gut. We believe you should consume only foods (and drinks) that support normal, healthy digestive function; eating anything that impairs the integrity of your gut impairs the integrity of your health.

This is why the Whole30 is 100% for 30 days—no cheats, slips, or special occasions. If you’re sensitive to a particular substance, it only takes a tiny amount to promote disruption in the gut (and elsewhere in the body). You must completely eliminate all potentially problematic foods for the full 30 days to allow your gut time and space to heal.

4. Support immune function and minimize inflammation.
Your food choices should result in a well-rested, highly-effective defense system. In other words, food should not cause excessive ongoing immune activity, also known as chronic systemic inflammation. Chronic systemic inflammation is at the heart of metabolic syndrome.

This is perhaps the most significant standard of them all, because systemic inflammation is related to just about every lifestyle-related disease and condition you can think of. It’s also sneaky, and can manifest itself in any number of different ways in the body—no two people’s symptoms are alike. And it’s why we eliminate the foods and beverages we do, as they have all been shown to promote inflammation either directly, or indirectly through impaired gut integrity.
"

I love the 4 dimensional look at foods. To me, this just makes so much sense. It seems so natural. It just feels "right".

Eric and I started the Whole30 yesterday. Today I feel fantastic. I feel like I am ON FIRE. But I know this will soon fade, and things will get tough. I will have to be creative with food. It will take a little more work to eat somedays.

But we are committed to this. We NEED to change our eating habits. We cannot keep living like this. I need to get healthier. We have lost 3 of our babies already. I need to make my body as healthy as possible, I cannot bear to lose any more.

Trim Healthy Mama: Day One

Flashback to several months ago. I was on my way to do a Steeped Tea party in Okno, rather upset about the fact that I feel like I have tried every diet in the book and nothing has ever given me permanent results. I prayed to God for an answer, some direction, some hope.

At my tea party I was telling the hostess about how I wanted to learn to eat in a more healthy and natural way. She asked me if I have ever read Trim Healthy Mama. I said no, and her and her guests were shocked! Everyone they know has read it. One of the ladies had a few books for sale for $40, so I bought it off her and picked it up a few weeks later .

It took me a few weeks and another tea party later to finally read the book. I loved it. Immediately ordered tonnes of the specialty ingredients and starting making recipes from the book. Most of them were delcicous. I ate from the plan for 2-3 weeks pretty strictly. I lost 6 lbs and Eric lost 7 or 8, (it kills me cause he didn't stick to the plan as closely as I did).

Enter summer vacations and cooking at camp for a week, and I was completely off track. I struggled to get back on for weeks, always saying I would start Monday, and by midday I was stuffing my face with candy or having a hardcore chocolate craving.

This past Tuesday I weighed myself to find, not to my surprise that I had gained all my weight back, and then some. It was time to try again.

Yesterday completed a whole day, I ate food I enjoyed, I didn't crave anything and I wasn't hungry.

This is what I had yesterday:

Breakfast: Scrambled Eggs with cheese, 2 slices chicken bacon and a glass of chocolate almond milk.
Lunch: Asian Salad with Sweet Chilli Thai chicken
Snack - Some cheese and a few almonds
Supper - Pizza on Joseph's Lavash Bread (Very low carb flatbread that I bough online at http://www.lowcarbcanada.ca )
Dessert: Secret Agent Brownies with Icing. I made the brownies with Chana dahl beans.

On the menu today:

Breakfast: Sweet Cinnamon Quinoa, 2 slices chicken bacon and 1/2 Banana
Lunch: Tomato soup with 4 slices Little Big Bread (it's sprouted bread, I get it from Costco for 5.99 for 2 loaves. It is the best bread I have ever had, I would eat it even if I wasn't on plan)
Supper: Ground beef tacos with Josephs low carb Tortilla's (also from http://www.lowcarbcanada.ca)
Dessert - Brownies from last night. They are even better the next day.

The basis of the plan is not eating fats and carbs at the same time, and you have protein with every meal. The plan is divided between two main types of meals, S - Satisfying and E- Energizing. They focus on only having one fuel source at a time. Fat being one fuel source, carbs being the other.

S meals are your fat based meals, they have generous amounts of healthy fats - butter, olive oil, coconut oil, red meats, nuts, etc. They must not contain more that 15 grams of carbs.

E meals are the carb bases meals, but they are supposed to be good carbs. Ones that have a low glycemic index which do not spike your blood sugar. You are still supposed to try to keep the carbs under 45 grams for these meals, and fat no more that 5 grams (1 teaspoon)

There is also Fuel pull meals, which have protein but less than 5 grams of fat and 15 grams of carbs. These meals help to speed up weight loss.

There are Crossover meals as well, meals that have over 5 grams of fat and over 15 grams of carbs, these are meals that will help maintain weight. If you are trying to loose weight, you should have very little crossovers.

Basically, you switch between S and E meals, with at least 3 hours in between types of meals. You can have 3 S meals in a row or whatever you want, but you always are supposed to wait 3 hours between types of meals. Fuel pull meals and snack you can have at any time, because they don't have any major fuel source.  Yesterday, all I ate was S meals because it was easier not to switch. Today breakfast and lunch are E's (the soup is a fuel pull, but with the bread added in it is an E) and supper/dessert is an S.

I find it much easier to make and enjoy S meals. I struggled to find tasty and enjoyable E meals, so I end up eating more S' than E's. Which is ok, they say to have at least 2-3 E meals a week.

This has turned into a very long post, and it is time for me to make lunch! One reason I wanted to start blogging again was so I could share my everyday struggles with this. I am hoping it will help me stick to it in some way or another.

A Little Secret

I have a secret. I have been working out for the last week. I didn't want to post about it right away because I didn't want to commit and fail. Which is exactly what I did last week.

Two weeks ago I went looking for the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred but I couldn't find it, so I bought Ripped in 30 instead. Last week I did two days and then got side tracked. This week I have went to bed early every night so I could wake up at 620 to do my workouts. So far I have done it all 4 days and I plan to do it tomorrow morning and before church on Sunday. Monday will be my rest day.

I really like the work out. I needed something that was 30 minutes long, because I simply cannot wake up before 6 on a workday. The workout is a great length and it is challenging, exactly what I want.

I am excited/nervous to do week 2. Apparently the workouts keep getting harder as you go!

The best part so far is that I already feel stronger!

I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to keep this up. I love having my workout done at the beginning of the day. Knowing me, I will drop off this routine after 2 or 3 weeks, but I really don't want to do that this time. I want to stick with it and make this a habit!

Tummy Update

I got frustrated and went back to my naturopath.

I don't think I am lactose intolerant. It seemed to help me for a few days to avoid milk and take the Lactaid. But it did not help completely. So if I am truly lactose intolerant, there is more than just that causing my tummy troubles.

My naturopath out me on Candicin to help with a possible candidia yeast overgrowth. Ever since I started taking those herbs, my stomach has felt WAY better.

I would also like to start the low GI diet hardcore again. Luckily my shakes are low GI, but I have not been eating low GI with my other meals and snacks. I need to start eating more veggies. I have been slacking in that area as well lately.

I am just so exhausted with these stomach issues. I need them to stop. I need to feel normal again!

Body By Vi 90 Day Challenge Week 5

I had a really rough week last week. I ate a whole bag of Caramilk Secrets (880 calories, BTW) on the way back to camping after my staff meeting. What can I say, I am a stress eater. That was not all I ate either. There was much, much more.

So for the last few days I have been tracking my food with MyNetDiary app on my iPod, and I am happy to say I am back on track. I have been walking and running, and I am eating healthier again.

I am down 7 lbs and a whopping 5 inches after my 5th week on the Body By Vi 90 Day Challenge.
I was disapointed by the number on the scale, but very impressed with the measurements.

Surprisingly enough I am not tired of the shakes. I try to make different flavors every day, so it is always like I am having something new. It is saving us money, and making my work prep in the morning very very easy. No more buying lunch 2-3 times a week because I forgot to bring something.

My goal this week is to run 5 or 6 times for at least 20 minutes.

Body By Vi 90 Day Challenge Week 4

Well the truth is I didn't get to weigh in. We were away camping, so I skipped this weigh in and measuring. It is probably for the best though with the amount of junk I ate this weekend! I am sure I probably gained! :(

This week I plan to work out more! This Sunday I will have a better update hopefully!

Body By Vi 90 Day Challenge Week 3

My 90 Day Challenge is still going well. So far I am down 6.6 pounds! I am loving the shakes. This week I tried to the Strawberry Mix-In with some ice and milk. It tasted EXACTLY like a strawberry milkshake. This morning for breakfast I mixed in a little bit of pistachio pudding mix with some ice and skim milk. It was AMAZING! I have a few more recipes I would like to try. So much so that I can't wait until it is time for my next shake.

This past week I have not eating very healthy suppers or snacks, so I was very surprised that I managed to even lose 0.6 of a pound. I would like to start getting back into the exercise groove this week. If I could only get to bed on time!

I am super excited to share about these products with other people. I am excited to help people get healthier. I am excited to help people achieve their financial goals.

I have been dreaming these last couple days of building up my team. I would love to make enough money from this to pay off all out debt. I would LOVE to be able to use that money for our fertility treatments and adoption. I would love to get Eric a decent vehicle to drive. I would love to help pay off the debts of my family and take them on a nice trip somewhere!

Week 1 Of The 90 Day Challenge

My 90 day challenge is going very well. This last week I have lost 5.6 lbs and 1.5 inches. That far exceeded my expectations! Though I don't think I will continue to loose at that rate, it sure is a great way to start off!

The shakes are very tasty. My regulars have been berries and cream, peanut butter cup, creamsicle, and iced cappuccino!

The first two days I was hungry in the afternoon and I didn't know if I could just have shakes for two meals for 90 days. But after that they have been filling me up and keeping me full. I always have a healthy snack in the afternoon anyways.

I actually like having the two shakes for breakfast and lunch. It makes getting ready for work in the morning way simpler. I always dreaded finding and making lunch for myself in the morning, but now it is easy! Things are a lot less stressful now, and I like it like that!

If you want more info on the challenge you can visit my website, or come to my challenge party tomorrow!

Late Nights

I need to stop doing these late nights. I always have big dreams of going to be early, but they never come true. I am always finding myself busy doing something that I don't want to stop and they I don't just my eyes until 12 or after. That gives me less than 7 hours of sleep. I usually get 6.5 on an average night. That is just not enough! They do studies on these things for a reason. I would also like to get up and run in the mornings, but if I don't adjust my bedtime that means even less sleep!

Speaking of sleep, I need to start heading to be now....

The 90 Day Challenge

Today I started my Body by Vi 90 Day Challenge!

Now, generally I try to stay away from fad diets. I have tried many of them and they work for a short period of time, but I just can't seem to stick with them.

I don't see this as a fad diet, I just see it as a challenge! It consists of two protein shake meals a day, and one healthy balanced meal with healthy snacks in between. I already have a protein shake for breakfast every morning, so that stays the same, but I am also going to have one for lunch. I am excited about this because I am always scrambling to find something for lunch, and this will be easy and healthy!

The shake mix is a sweet cream flavour, so you can mix it with pretty much anything. This morning for breakfast I mixed it with a cup of frozen raspberries and a cup of skim milk for "Raspberries & Cream", and for supper tonight I plan on having a Peanut Butter Cup shake! I will mix a bit of chocolate frozen yogurt, 2 tsp peanut butter, the chocolate mix in, 2 scoops shake mix and a cup of skim milk. (I had lunch at the in-laws which is why I am having it for supper).

My goal in the 90 days is to loose 25 lbs and exercise 45 minutes 5 days a week regularly.

If you would like to join me you can visit http://lintc.myvi.net/ for more information.

The shakes are not just for weight loss. One a day helps maintain a healthy weight, and mixed with water or skim milk after a work out is a great way to help build healthy lean muscle. ViSalus also has vitamins, metabolism boosters, and natural energy drinks, and protein cookies. I like that they try to focus on healthy, natural products!

Another great thing about these shakes is that they are Low GI, so they are perfect for my diet to help control PCOS. I have been of the wagon for over a month now, and I am excited to get back on!

My Journey To Fitness: Month 3

Pounds to goal: 69

Acceptable Goal: Do TurboFire 6 days a week for 90 days and loost 20 lbs by Christmas.
Challenging Goal: Run for 45 minutes at a time, run a 5K and not get last.
Ultimate Goal: Loose 71 lbs, win a 5K. To be active every day. To make exercise a habit that I stick to.

What changes I have made this month: I stopped running. It was getting too dark in the mornings, and I am scared of the dark! There was no way I was going to run in the dark! So I ordered TurboFire, which is kind of like Turbo Jam, but intensified and includes high intensity interval training, which is supposed to be the best for fat burning. Actually it is alot like the p90x program, but instead of being focused on building muscle, it focuses on burning fat. I have also started taking metformin again. That in combination with starting to read Thin Within again has helped me to loose the weight I gained back since going off metformin.

What I have learned this month: That I get bored if I don't have a challenging goal to meet. Running wasn't quite as fun when I didn't have a set goal to acheive! I did run for 26 minutes at a time though.

What I want to change next month: Finish reading Thin Within finally, commit to exercising 6 days a week and NOT sleeping through my alarm! I also want to start going to be earlier, because going to bet at 12 and getting up at 6 just isn't cool. I would love to be in bed sleeping by 10:30, I think that is reasonable! I also need to spend less time on the internet, mostly obsessing over my infertility and what I can do to cure it!

My Running Schedule

I did not run at all last week. I just needed a break week. Plus it is dark and COLD in the morning and I don't really want to run in the dark ( yes, I am scared. Coyotes, bears, skunks. Need I say more?). So I might stop running for the season, and get up and do p90x or TurboJam or something like that. I like getting up and working out, it is a great start to the day, and I don't want to loose that routine. Here is the schedule I used to get me to running 20 minutes at a time:

Week 1: Run 1 min, Walk 2 min x 6 sets, run 1 min. (Total run time : 7 min.)
Week 2: Run 1 min, Walk 1 min x 10 sets, (Total run time : 10 min.)
Week 3: Run 2 min, Walk 1 min x 6 sets, run 2 min. (Total run time : 14 min.)
Week 4: Run 3 min, Walk 1 min x 5 sets, (Total run time : 15 min.)
Week 5: Run 4 min, Walk 1 min x 4 sets, (Total run time : 16 min.)
Week 6: Run 5 min, Walk 1 min x 3 sets, run 2 min. (Total run time : 17 min)
Week 7: Run 6 min, Walk 1 min x 3 sets, (Total run time : 18 min.)
Week 8: Run 8 min, Walk 1 min x 2 sets, run 2 min (Total run time : 18 min.)
Week 9: Run 10 min, Walk 1 min x 2 sets, (Total run time : 20 min.)
Week 10: Run 20 min non stop (Total run time : 20 min.)

Let me know if you are going to try it! I would love to cheer you on and encourage you!

My Journey To Fitness Month Two

Minutes running at a time: 20
Pounds to goal: 70
Acceptable Goal: Continue running for 20 minutes each morning and add 20-30 more minutes of exercise a day.

Challenging Goal: Run for 45 minutes at a time, run a 5K and not get last.

Ultimate Goal: Loose 71 lbs, win a 5K. To be active every day. To run 5x a week, strength train 3x per week, and bike 2x on the weekends.

What changes I have made this month: Honestly! Not a whole lot. I stopped taking a certain medication, as instructed by my doctor, and I gained back 5 lbs! I also got a ravenous appetite off the meds, I was just hungry all the time. So I started PGX, which is a concentrated fibre capsule, that helps with supressing my hunger and helps regulate blood sugar levels. So far it seems to help with the appetite, and I have lost 3-4lbs that I have gained. I have been on it for about 2 weeks.

What I have learned this month: That I am capable of running for 20 minutes at a time. It was such a huge goal for me to meet. I can do things if I put my mind to it!
What I want to change next month: Eating more vegetables and fresh foods. I would also like to get in more exercise somehow! I am still thinking of readying Thin Within again. I feel like I am stuck at a weight plateau that i just can't get off of! I would love to loose another 20lbs before Christmas!

And for fun, I decided I was brave enough to post picture. The first is from when I started Thin Within 1.5 years and 23lbs ago, the second I took tonight. I don't actually think it looks that different, but it's a start!! Please ignore my stupid faces in the before pics. I guess I just figured people always look miserable in the befores!

Running Week 8 of 10

Last week I complete Week 8 of running! The schedule was run 8, walk 1 x 2, then run 2 for a total of 18 minutes running. I didn't push myself too hard, and it was doable! Jumping it up an extra two minutes was not so bad. I am still waiting to loose some weight as a result of this, but Eric and I are going to follow a meal plan starting sometimes this week. It will be nice to be told which recipes to make. It gives us a shopping list for the week, then we just make what it tells us! So many times we get home and have NO clue what to make for supper, so this will help. I am NOT referring to a diet, because they don't work for me! We will see...

My Journey To Fitness - Month 1

As promised , I will do a monthly overview of my fitness progress. I enjoy reading about it in Shape, and it will be good for me to journal my progress! I wish I had a Month 0, but I only got this idea a couple weeks ago.

Minutes running at a time: 5

Pounds to goal: 71

Acceptable Goal: Run for 20 minutes at a time.

Challenging Goal: Run for 45 minutes at a time, run a 5K and not get last.

Ultimate Goal: Loose 71 lbs, win a 5K. To be active every day. To run 5x a week, strength train 3x per week, and bike 2x on the weekends.

Today I read an article saying that many women who have PCOS loose weight, reverse PCOS and get pregnant without fertility treatments! If that is not motivation, I don`t know what is!

What changes I have made this month: began running, drinking more water, limiting salt addition to food, adding more fresh produce to diet, make more lunches at home and eating out less often. Making healthier choices when ordering out.

What I have learnt this month: I love running. It is easier to get started than I thought. It is a great way to start out my day. Exercising makes me crave healthier food. I am thinking more about what I put into my body. Making small changes at a time is easier than overhauling my lifestyle. It is easier to stick to, and it motivates me to make more changes. I feel alot less like a failure. Weight loss is not achieved by exercise alone, I have not lost a pound yet! Diet is equally important. Reading material, like magazines, on fitness helps to motivate me press on and it gives me lots of great tips and ideas, and great work outs!

What I want to change next month: Add some biking in on the weekends, continue running, and do more strength training. I also want to work more on my diet this month. I want to cut out as much processed food as possible, eat more fresh produce, and find healthy but yummy recipes. I would also like to add more avacados and asparagus to my diet, because I decided I like them!

Running Week 4 of 10

This week I am running 3 minutes, walking 1 minutes times 5, (total of 15 min running) it is surprisingly easy. I mean, it is not easy, but at then end of the 3 minutes I feel like I could keep going for a bit longer. I got a Timex Ironman Road Trainer heart rate monitor for my birthday, and it helps keep me going at the right pace.

I started reading Shape magazine a few months ago, and I really like it. Each month it has two people check in to talk about their weight loss and what changes they are making each month. It is fun to watch their progress. So I am thinking of doing something like that on here! And I welcome anyone to join me!

Running Week 3 of 10!

This week I am running for 2 minutes, walking for 1 x 6, then run 2 minutes for a total of 14 minutes running (20 minutes all together). It is hard. But it is doable!

This is actually my fourth week of running, the third week that Sarah is joining me! I am still loving it. I started going to the gym in Gimli with Coralee, a co worker. The gym there is small, cramped and it feels like a dungeon! I don't like it, and I probably won't go another month. But yesterday I did a workout from my Shape magazine and I really liked it! It was fast, the moves weren't complicated and I could feel the burn! I am going again tomorrow.

On another note, I just ordered a bunch of bathing suits from Lime Ricki to try on! I doubt I will keep them all ( I ordered 4 tops and 2 bottoms), but I can't wait to get them. I am sick of wearing a bikini with shirt over the top. The shirt always hold SO much water and it slows me down on water slides!

Running: Week 2 of 10

Week 2 of the running schedule is run 1 minute, walk 1 minute x 10. So we run for a total of 10 minutes this week, with a shorter rest period. So far, so good. I still can't imagine running for 2 minutes straight next week will be easy, but we will cross that bridge when we get there! We still have 3 days left of this interval.

I love running. I love running first thing in the morning. So far we have had good weather each morning, no rain. We get up early enough that it is still cool. This morning we went at 730, it was still cool, but I think if we had gone any later it would have gotten warm. Running is a great way to start out my day.

With all this running, you would expect that I would be loosing weight. But no. The scale is staying the same (Eric and I FINALLY bought our own bathroom scale the other day, so now the readings will be consistent) I am still telling myself the weight loss will come with time, but being human, I need some immediate gratification! My diet is not great right now. I mean, eating a handful of chocolate chips, and when I mean a handful I mean as many chocolate chips as my greasy paw can possible hold on to at once, is not exactly conducive to weight loss or a healthy lifestyle. That is just not a habit I want to hold on to.

I am thinking of reading Thin Within again. I never really finished it last time, and I know I said I would take things one step at a time, but this eating needs to get reined back in! Or maybe I should wait a few weeks until I get the hang of this running thing.

I also need to start working my muscles. Running as cardio is great, but I know I need to weight train as well if I want to be as healthy as possible! I joined the gym in Gimli with a friend. I haven't gone yet, but I will tomorrow. I will probably only go for a month. I think it is kinda yucky, and I would rather do P90X at home. That way I know I am working all my muscles properly and not leaving anything out.

Does anyone know of a good Yoga DVD that I could try? The P90X one is 1.5 hours long and that is just too much for me at a time. 45 minutes would be perfect, but I could do an hour it if is really good.

Running

I started running last week. I am terrible at it. But that is to be expected. I have talked to a couple runners this week that said they could barely run 30 seconds when they started, but now, one of them at least, can run for 2 hours without stopping! Actually both of them are running in the marathon this weekend! Now if that isn't encouragement....

So I am going to press on. I am starting slow, going out for 20 minutes. My short term goal is to run for 20 minutes without stopping. When I reach that goal, then I will run for longer. My long term goal is to run for an hour.

I have been going to bed earlier and getting up earlier to go for a run. I think that will work best for me, because I know I will not feel like running after a long day of work. And I think I am going to love it. I do love the feeling of running, but I don't love how I feel after 30 seconds of running!

This is going to be the start of a healthier lifestyle for me. I have tried so many diets and exercise plans, and I will probably try some more. Not diets so much, but exercise plans. I like switching it up. But I always try to change everything at once, and I get burnt out. So this time, I am going to fit running into my schedule. Once that become a habit, I am going to start working harder on my eating habits. I am still going to try eating as healthy as possible in the mean time, but I am not going to stress about it! I think taking little steps will be longer lasting that changing everything at once!

On another note, I passed my Fitness Theory exam! So my first step of becoming a fitness instructor is complete! I still have much more to do though...
