Lent

I have decided to give up Facebook for lent. I just spend far too much time on there, so it was an obvious pick. I also learnt that if you start on Ash Wednesday it is 46 days until Easter Sunday, and lent is 40 days. This is because you are allowed to break on Sunday's from lent! Not that lent is mandatory, it is a personal thing, so if I decide to break it I am only cheating myself and my relationship with God! I am not sure I will every Sunday, but I probably will tomorrow! I have also decided to give up buying candy/chocolate. I just don't need to spend money on that. Now, if someone were to give it to me, that is a different story! LOL. I have never really done lent before, so this should be interesting!

Are you doing lent? What have you decided to give up?

I did lent for a few years but didn't find any sort of spiritual enrichment for me. I think to really have giving something up for lent make a difference for me #1-I would have to give up something that consumes a large amount of my time and I have a REALLY hard time giving up
#2-I would need to take the time that I normally take to do that activity and spend that time in God's word and in prayer.

Thats exactly why I gave up Facebook. Because I spent so much of my free time on there, that there is never any time for me to do devotions! I am hoping to use the time I would normally go on Facebook to spend time with God!

It's nice to see other people take part in Lent. :)
I started a couple of years ago, but this is the first year I've been a little more serious about it, and committed to more than just the self-denial of something (this year it's meat). I'm also trying to add prayer, penance, and giving to others during this season to really give Lent my all.
