Running

I started running last week. I am terrible at it. But that is to be expected. I have talked to a couple runners this week that said they could barely run 30 seconds when they started, but now, one of them at least, can run for 2 hours without stopping! Actually both of them are running in the marathon this weekend! Now if that isn't encouragement....

So I am going to press on. I am starting slow, going out for 20 minutes. My short term goal is to run for 20 minutes without stopping. When I reach that goal, then I will run for longer. My long term goal is to run for an hour.

I have been going to bed earlier and getting up earlier to go for a run. I think that will work best for me, because I know I will not feel like running after a long day of work. And I think I am going to love it. I do love the feeling of running, but I don't love how I feel after 30 seconds of running!

This is going to be the start of a healthier lifestyle for me. I have tried so many diets and exercise plans, and I will probably try some more. Not diets so much, but exercise plans. I like switching it up. But I always try to change everything at once, and I get burnt out. So this time, I am going to fit running into my schedule. Once that become a habit, I am going to start working harder on my eating habits. I am still going to try eating as healthy as possible in the mean time, but I am not going to stress about it! I think taking little steps will be longer lasting that changing everything at once!

On another note, I passed my Fitness Theory exam! So my first step of becoming a fitness instructor is complete! I still have much more to do though...

I found your blog through Jobina, I hope you don't mind I have been reading it. My husband Evan and I were assistant camp directors at Beaver Creek about 5 years ago and we also taught at Morweena school.

I just noticed that you are trying to be a fitness Instructor, I think that is fantastic. I have been teaching LesMills programs for Goodlife fitness in Calgary for 3 years and Just found out I am in the Top 10 Instructor of the year for all of Canada.

If you have any questions at all please feel free to ask, it is the most rewarding job ever. You watch your members lose weight and gain confidence.

Hey Lindsey, not sure if you remember me or not, it's Diane Timmons (Hillary's Mom) I really appreciate your blog, (hope you don't mind) I love how honest you are! I started running 12 weeks ago and when I started I couldn't do 10 minutes, now I'm up to 5km 3 times a week and I love it too! I struggle with weight/diets as well and running is something that I do just for me. I run in the early morning on the trail close to our house that runs along Fermor Ave. I just wanted to encourage you to keep going, it's totally worth it. Where are you taking your fitness instructor training? Sounds very interesting. Cheers Diane

Hi Diane! Thanks for reading! :)

I was just admiring that Fermor trail the other day! It looks great. That is encouraging! I am excited to get better at running, and to hear that other people are loving it!

I am taking the training through the Manitoba Fitness Council, they come out to the Interlake and do courses. It is nice to not have to drive to the city! I still have another course to do, and then some practicum and take the CPR/first aid stuff...

Congrats Lindsey !!! So proud of you so when you become a fitness instructor you can help me out! I am heading toward the healthier lifestyle as well, my plan is to wake up earlier in the morning to work out because I know what it feels like to come home after work and just wanting to relax! If you ever want to go walking after work give me a call!!
Love You

So I tried it I work up at 5:45 and worked out for 45 minutes - probably not the best thing for me to do - I felt so sick to my stomach after the work out it wasn't pleasant! The good news is that I don't have to worry about doing it after work! Good luck with your running!
