Naturopath and Massage

Yesterday I had my appointment with the Naturopathic doctor. I thought it went really well, and I really like the naturopathic approach to health. I like how they look at all your symptoms and treat you as a whole person, not just specific symptoms. She talked to me for at least and hour and 15 minutes, and I felt like she really listened to me and what was going on.

She thinks that a lot of my anxiety/fatigue is due to my diet, and my blood sugar spiking up then crashing down. Because I have PCOS, this totally makes sense to me. She wants me to go on a low GI diet. I have read about this before, and how it is really good for people with PCOS. But I just haven't made the effort to do it. So yesterday I started. She also wants me to cut out dairy, because it can cause inflammation and that is not good when hormones are out of balance.

She also put me on some more vitamins, Multi Glyco, to help with the insulin resistance, and I am supposed to take 1500mg of Vitamin C instead of 500mg like the bottle reccomends. This is awesome because they are grape flavored and delicious, and the closest thing I will get to candy! She sent me home with a greens drink, which is kinda minty/veggie flavored. It doesn't taste the best but it is bearable. I am also supposed to eat 2-4tbsp of shelled hemp seeds/hemp hearts every day. This is also no problem because they are very yummy! All of that stuff I bought and have started. She also wanted me to have 1-2 scoops of a protien powder per day. This I haven't bought yet, because I don't want to waste money. Most protien powders I have tried make me gag. And the only one I have ever tried that I like has a full serving of whole milk in it, and I can't have dairy so that is not an option. I guess I will just have to try one and choke it down!

That is a long list of things to do. It is a bit overwhelming (well, mostly the diet part) but I really believe she can help me, so I want to follow her treatment plan. I love to idea of getting healthy without drugs. I want to give this my best shot! She also want to run a bunch of tests, but they cost money and are not covered by healthcare. There is two different tests she would like to run, but I think I am just going to go with one of them for now, because this is all so expensive already. I am going to have to sell lots of Partylite and bath items to afford this!

Today I finally had a massage. I say finally because this was the 3rd time I booked an appointment. The first time I booked one I had to book 3 weeks in advance. I showed up for the appointment to find out that I didn't have one, nor had I missed it or came a day early. They never booked me in. So she booked me another appointment and gave me a card and told me to come back next week with that card and I would have an appointment. I went back a week later, gave them the card, and they told me there was no massage therapist available and that my appointment should never have been booked for that time. They felt really bad, booked me an appointment for the next week and told me it would be complimentary. I cried half the way home. I was a bit nervous showing up today, but I did have an appointment and it was great!

Excited to hear about the naturopath! We are trying the same approach right now. The best protein powder that I've tried is Vega (the berry flavor is the one I like) I make smoothies with Almond milk, frozen banana, frozen blueberries, spinach, cinnamon, chia seeds, and protien powder. I can send a link for more smoothie ideas if you'd like. My Naturopath has me eating seeds and nuts as well, and a smoothie is the best way to mix it all and have it taste great! :)
